NORTHERN MICHIGAN FISHING REPORTS | WEST SIDE FLY GUIDE

Northern Michigan River Fishing Report — Spring Steelhead | March 2026

Weather & Conditions We’ve had ideal steelhead conditions across Michigan’s west coast rivers this week. Temperatures have been hovering in the low 40s during the day with overnight lows in the mid-30s. Light precipitation earlier in the week brought water levels up slightly on all three rivers, creating perfect conditions for fresh fish to push upstream from Lake Michigan. The Pere Marquette is running at optimal levels with good clarity. Water temps are sitting around 38-40°F, which has the fish active and aggressive. The Betsie is flowing beautifully with that classic tea-stained water steelhead love, while the Manistee is running a touch higher than normal but still very fishable with excellent visibility in the slower pools and tailouts.
